Steve Kenny loves water. That is probably an understatement for a person that has committed so much time and energy to deeply understand how water works and reacts in different environments. Before we hired Steve, we had a lot of problems maintaining the water clarity and quality that is necessary to provide a great water experience for our members and students and Olympic athletes. The Asphalt Green pool is the only indoor Olympic-size swimming pool in Manhattan and it has served 9.1 million New Yorkers over the last 24 years, including Lia Neal, a Brooklyn native who became the first African-American female swimmer to medal at two Olympics.

Steve came in and quickly identified key issues. Once we addressed these issues, the water quality improved dramatically. With up to 5 pool configuration changes a day and drastically changing bather loads, we had to fundamentally change the way we thought about pool management and water treatment. Steve trained our entire engineering staff from the ground up and demonstrated how to anticipate the demands on the water and how to prepare the water rather than being reactive. He did this with great passion and has a true 360-degree understanding of all aspects of pool and water management. As of now our members are much happier and are enjoying crystal clear water that is safe at much lower chlorine levels. Thank you Steve!

We did a lot of research on pool companies on the East End as part of a major renovation and restoration of our family’s home in Sag Harbor. We had never had a house with a pool before, but did not relish the idea of floating around in a chlorine-based environment. We were hoping to avoid that classic chemical smell, sting in our eyes, and drying effect on our skin that we had come to associate with standard chlorine and saltwater pools, and we were eager to learn about other options. I like to work with people who are passionate about what they do – and Steve is a bit of a fanatic about water chemistry, having created his own ozone-based custom water filtration system.

Delicious, fresh, light, bubbly, sparkling, clean – and refreshing. These words could be a joyful description of a particularly excellent glass of champagne or perhaps a fabulous drink made with champagne – but no – this is describing the experience we had swimming in SRK’s custom treated water in their “showroom” pool. We were hooked! We spent a rather fun month or so designing the pool, picking colors for the finish, and stone for the coping. The SRK team took my sketches and did all the engineering. They handled everything from excavation to formwork, all the hidden piping, the detailing and layout for the equipment room, and coordination of the shooting and contouring of the gunite shell. The process went incredibly well. It is difficult to express the depth of pleasure that our SRK ozone pool has brought to our family and friends without sounding evangelical – but really – it continues to be a life changing and joyful marvel that exceeds our expectations on a regular basis.
